Award-Winning Independent Film Director Alrick Brown Puts Spotlight on New Jersey in new Kickstarter Campaign

By: T.MORRISON AGENCY Staff

T.MORRISON AGENCY has partnered with Award-Winning Filmmakers Alrick Brown and Deatra Harris for the 30-day Kickstarter campaign to fund their latest project, My Manz by award-winning writer, JM Benjamin

The opening minutes of “My Manz” takes place ten years before the rest of the film. We will use the money raised to shoot that portion of the movie and then use those scenes to raise the rest of the budget —1 million dollars.

To literally kickstart this feature film “My Manz” based on a novel by JM Benjamin $60,000 will need to be raised.  Brown shares, "We are asking everyday people to give $20.00 and thank 20 people who helped them with their particular hustle. Giving is important and thanking helps us share our journey and unifies a community around the film."

Scheduled to shoot in Plainfield, New Jersey, Alrick Brown, is recognized as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces to Watch and an Emerging FilmMaker in Vanity Fair, Alrick Brown is an award winning writer, director, and producer.

His collective works have screened in over 65 festivals worldwide, earning numerous awards and honors. His first feature, Kinyarwanda premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and went on to win several awards including the World Cinema Audience Award for best dramatic film at both Sundance and AFI Fest. It was also nominated for three NAACP Image Awards and was listed as one of the top 10 best films of 2011 by Roger Ebert. Please click the video below and support the #ChooseYourHustle movement!

Just want to take a moment to thank our media friends for helping to make this project a BIG success for our  agency!

The film What About Us? debuted at BronzeLens film festival in Atlanta on Friday night to raving reviews.  Actress Jasmine Guy, Writer/Director Deatra Harris and 16 year-old songwriter of the song, Lyric Stephens addressed the emotional crowd with thunderous applause.

Epatha Merkerson best known for her role as NYPD Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on the drama series Law & Order and the TV One series, Black and Missing gave the film raving reviews while addressing audience about her own film, The Contradictions of Fair Hope and the ladies of Colored My Mind: Diagnosis a film about the lack of awareness, diagnosis and support of black and brown children diagnosed with autism which featured Nicole Ari Parker and Blair Underwood (all great films!) also acknowledged the brilliance of What About Us?

Saturday we headed over to HLN for a segment on Weekend Express with the lovely Natasha Curry.  The love and support the media has given this film is much appreciated.  Jasmine Guy is certainly a class act and Deatra L. Harris is a brilliant filmmaker with more to come, so stay on the look out for her.
